The Mont-Aux-Source Trail Challenge was a special one for us, it was our first 50km race and what an experience! One of SA’s Oldest Trail Runs, you climb just under 2000m elevation!
It is an out a back race, so you are climbing until about 26km but there are some nice runnable sections, at 18km you reach the sentinel car park so you need to make sure you have enough water and food as the next climb is tough and a long time till the next aid station.
The Chain ladders are such a great experience, your legs are tired and it feels like a km of climbing but when you get to the top it’s such an amazing feeling and only about 2km to reach the world highest waterfall! Epic views and take your time.
Steep descent on the Gully so take it slow, then you are on the same path you ran up. 23km of downhill running does take its toll on the legs but you are almost at the finish.
The Mont-Aux-Source Trail Challenge 50km was such a great challenge and an amazing experience. Add it to your list as it usually happens in September.
