The Mnweni Marathon… Technical, steep climbs and descents, very tough but probably one of the best views of any Trail Running race we have done in the Drakensberg.
Mnweni, ‘the place of fingers’, is located between the Royal Natal National Park and the Cathedral range in the heart of the Drakensberg escarpment.
You climb up into Lesotho and then back down. Covering around 2000m and 40km distance.
There are different race distances: 40km, 20km, 10km and 6km routes.
In terms of accommodation, we would recommend finding a spot really close and booking early as there are not many options close to the start, we had to travel about 45mins early morning for the race so it’s better to stay closer.
Here is our experience of the Mnweni Trail Marathon Race:
If you want to enter or want more details on the elevation routes etc, you can find it on the KZN Trail Running site.
